Royal Ontario Museum Exhibit Design

Playful Pursuits: Chinese Traditional Toys and Games showcased 140 toys, games and pastimes, ranging from the 1st century AD to the modern age. Each object revealed a rare glimpse into how this ancient nation valued light-hearted pursuits and happiness over the centuries.

Collaborating with the Royal Ontario Museum’s team and given the challenge of working with an existing fixed space, James developed the exhibit’s overall theme that blended historic Chinese artwork with Western typography and clean lines. From the entrance to the description panels, the environment enhanced the beauty and uniqueness of the artifacts while captivating visitors.
